MOCHALOV , Sergei Mikhailovich (1902, Astrakhan - 1957 , Leningrad)
Russian Soviet graphic artist, illustrator and designer of books ekslibrist , master prints .
In 1922 he was sent among the most capable students Astrakhan painting studio in Petrograd, in the Academy of Fine Arts , where he studied until 1926 at the P. Shillingovsky . Upon completion of the Academy took part in the exhibition " Russian woodcut for 10 years" (1927). Working in the department of children's literature Gosizdat , illustrated historical novel for young people : books Buchstab B. "Hero Underground" (1927 ), S. Bogdanovich " rebel prince " (1928 ), L. Saveliev "Hunting for the Tsar" (1929 ), L. Tynianov " Kakhovskii " (1930 )
and others. In 1930, in conjunction with the VM KONASHEVICH , Orlova and NK Von der Fleet created a very successful illustrations for " Pushkin's fairy tales " in the series " Cheap Library classics ." Cooperating with the publishing Academia, designed and illustrated the works of AI Polezhaeva (1933), AI Odoevskogo (1934), novel by Heinrich Heine (Heinrich Heine) ( 1937) and others. In 1945 illustrated book of poems by A. Yashin "Earth warriors " publishing "Young Guard" .
In 1936 one of the first captured image in graph Kirov , creating print " SM Kirov in Astrakhan '( awarded a gold medal at the exhibition of Soviet graphic in Paris (1937) ) . During the siege of Leningrad artist was among the famous Leningrad graphs ( AP Miasoyedov , NM Kochergin VV Morozov, YM Neprintsev , NA Pavlov , AF Pakhomov, NI Pil'shchikov , SB Yudovin , AN Yar- Kravchenko , etc.), develop stories postcards devoted to the heroic defense of the city . Set of 5 cards
S. Mochalova " Leningrad during the Great Patriotic War" was reissued in 1952 Voenizdat .
