 American painter, whose work for the most part connected with the art of several European countries. As one of the most famous artists in his time, he wrote, mainly portraits of the highest nobility. Sargent came from a wealthy family doctor. He showed early aptitude for drawing. His first mentor in art began in 1868 lived in Rome landscapist Charles Welch, an American of German descent. In 1870 entered the Florentine Academy of Arts. In 1874 continued his education in Paris at the School of Fine Arts. But soon came to the studio fashion portrait Karolyus-Durand. Sargent's career developed rapidly, and already in the beginning. 1880 his name became more popular in the aristocratic salons of Paris and London.
