Leonid Janusz (December 13, 1897 - June 8, 1978) - Leningrad artists, representatives of the classical school of Russian landscape painting.

Biography

At the beginning of XX century, in the complex for Russian art period, when many artists addicted to various avant-garde experiments, Leonid Janusz tried to stick realist. It can be related to one of those artists who followed the best traditions of Russian landscape painting.
Born Leonid Janusz December 13, 1897 in St. Petersburg. Great influence on the future of the artist had his grandfather, Major General Leonid Janusz, teacher Corps of Pages in St. Petersburg, which gave the young Leonid first art lessons.

In 1912, the family of the future artist moved to Pavlovsk. Leonid began to study painting at the School of the Society for Encouragement of Arts, where his teacher was the NP Himona (pupil of Kuindzhi). Himona was a prominent representative of the traditions of Russian landscape school and had a great influence on the LB Janusz.
In 1915, Leonid graduated from military school and enrolled at the Institute of Civil Engineers, where he was drafted into the army - at the time was the First World War.
Leonid dreamed of entering the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, but fate had broken his plans. In the second half of the 1918 death of his grandfather and father in the care of the young artist left the whole family. Leonid decided to devote himself to what interested him no less than art: the railroad. He got a job as a technician and quickly rose to the train driver. There was a civil war, so the young driver drove both civil and military echelons.
After returning in 1920 to Pavlovsk Leonid continued his studies at the locomotive department of the Institute of Technology. In 1923, he married Catherine Lazarevna Bryzgachevoy, a native of Pavlovsk, a year later they had a daughter, Natasha. In 1927 the family moved to Petrograd, began an active research and teaching activities of the artist. He taught a course on the theory and design of steam locomotives. He wrote several books under the general title "Construction of railway locomotives", published from 1929 to 1935. For these books training several generations of engineers. During this period, LB Janusz less to painting, but often wrote sketches. He then created a series of paintings on the railway theme, some of which are now in the Museum of Railway Transport in St. Petersburg.
In 1927, began a crackdown on the scientific intelligentsia, LB Janusz was dismissed from the institute and could not find a permanent job. During this period, he returned to painting and became engaged in the art studio at the House of engineers. Soon Leonid Janusz met Arkady Rylov, who learned a lot.
Before the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, Leonid came to work in the Military Transport Academy. In late 1941, the Academy was evacuated in fire where Leonid, along with the main job has been actively painting. He started dozens of miles and wrote numerous studies of the ancient Volga city and its surroundings. In addition to painting the artist continued to do research, and in 1942 he received a PhD.
In late 1944, the Academy returned to Leningrad. LB Janusz continued to work at the Academy. In 1947, it was invented by a new design of steam distributor for locomotives, but in connection with the transition to electric and thermal thrust, his invention has lost relevance. In 1950 he published his book "The Russian engines for 50 years." In total, during the period of work in the Military Transport Academy was established over thirty published works on locomotives and a number of tutorials and metodichek on engineering graphics. Considerable success Leonid achieved in painting, participating in the annual exhibitions of the Leningrad Union of Artists.
In 1962, Leonid Borisovich an acquaintance with the director of the Palace Museum of the city of Pavlovsk - Anna Ivanovna greenish. He painted a portrait of this remarkable woman, during the war heroically rescues exhibits palace and park. With the permission of greenish he created a series of brilliant palace interiors, architectural ensembles and the nature of one of the most beautiful parks in the world.
In the 1970s, the artist created a series of watercolor interiors of the House Veterans scene on Petrovsky Island, in the city of Leningrad. During the 75th anniversary and the 80th anniversary of the artist in Leningrad were his personal exhibitions, highly regarded amateur Russian painting.
Leonid died June 8, 1978. He is buried in Pavlovsk near the graves of his father and grandfather, is buried there with his wife and daughter.
