The composite picture. Aivazovsky?

Hello , need advice. There is a picture , the end of the 19th century for sure. Stylistically similar to Aivazovsky. But .. picture , as it were divided into two.
Canvas - it most of the paintings - the sea , the sky. Glass - a ship on it and " strengthening" the wave crests . So, when applied to the glass canvas painting takes a holistic story.

Photo, unfortunately, can not do. Signature is on the glass, but barely visible . On the canvas can be too, but a very dark background of the sea bottom + glass not allow you to visually identify 100%.

Wondering if you've heard all about this technique ?
