Dmitry S. Kondratiev was born in the Kemerovo region, in a peasant family. Early lost his father, his childhood was difficult. With the stigma of the "son of an enemy of the people" began to work on the farm to help his mother.
Artistic ability was still in school. In November 1944, when he turned 16, he was drafted into the army. In 1945, he took part in the fighting against Japan. After demobilization in 1951, went straight to learn.

From 1969 he lived and worked in Novgorod.
1956 -1961 graduated from the Kazan Art School,
1968 - 1973 - graduated from the Moscow State Institute of Printing.

Member of the Union of Russian Artists. Member of the Russian and international exhibitions, including Italy, Germany, Finland, the USA, Sweden.

His works are in the Museum of Fine Arts in Veliky Novgorod, the State Museum of Art Culture of Novgorod (Novgorod), the State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), and in private collections in Russia and abroad.
