On this day in the small town of Bethlehem was an unprecedented event - was born in the world of the Divine Infant, Son of God. Jesus Christ was born supernaturally of the Virgin Mary, Mother of God.

When he came to earth, Christ was not greeted with honor, nobility and wealth. He has not even been a cradle, like all children, there was no refuge - He was born in the country, in a cave and was laid in a manger, to put food for animals.

The first guests of the divine infant were not the kings and nobles, and the simple shepherds, which the angel announced the Nativity of Christ: "I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people: for unto you is born in the city of David a Savior who is Christ the Lord! And a sign unto you shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger "(Luke 2,10-12).

The shepherds hurried to the first worship the newborn Savior. At this time, with the gifts of the Magi were the King of Peace (ancient sages) from the east. They expected that soon the land would come a great King of the World, a wonderful star show them the way to Jerusalem.

The wise men brought in the child gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. These gifts have a profound meaning: gold brought as a tribute to the king, and frankincense, as God, and myrrh as a man who must die (myrrh in those days anointed the dead).

But do so was born the Christ received? The Holy Church sings that all God's creation met the Saviour: angels brought him singing, the Magi - gifts, the shepherds greeted the babe, the land has prepared a cave-den, and the Mother of God was the Virgin Mary.

Christmas ends forty-day Advent (holy Lent), on the eve of the holiday is observed a strict fast. After Christmas, come Christmas-tide - holy days or 12 days, during which the celebrated holiday.
