"Frozen Dreams" will publish the new Russian art in London
The book "Frozen Dreams" (Frozen Dreams: Contemporary art from Russia), which goes in the British publisher Thames & Hudson, will speak about the major artists, collectors and patrons of postwar art scene, told RIA Novosti by its author, head of London's Department of Russian Art Sotheby's Joanna Vickery (Joanna Vickery). As recognized by Vickery, with verbatim translation of the name lost a lot of shades. "The word dream is very difficult to translate into Russian in the context of the book, because it is not just a dream, but illusions and dreams. During the past 50 years there have been many dramatic changes and the brightest - the transition from the USSR to Russia. My name is refers to the cultural and social topics, social circumstances, the background, which developed the Russian art, "- noted author, who followed up Thames & Hudson series on contemporary art in different countries. According to Vickery, the book includes information on 84 artists and their works, as well as collectors, and not only Russian but also foreign ones - for example, George Kostaki and Norton Dodge who died recently. There is a story about the benefactor, supporting the development of contemporary Russian art through the creation of cultural foundations, the building art centers and the establishment of prizes - for example, Roman Abramovich, Daria Zhukova and Shalva Breus. "This story is preceded three articles: Catherine Bobrinskaya bridge the gap between avant-garde, modernism and what is happening today, Alexander Danilov wrote beautifully about what has happened since 1953, after the thaw and perestroika to the present day - which is now placing on art scene, and the American critic Eleanor Hartni demonstrates an interesting look at how the West is now perceive contemporary art from Russia, "- said Vickery. She believes that the publication might be interesting for Russian readers, because it gives perspective to a broad discussion of the art scene. "A lot of critics and collectors have written about how to survive a complicated change in the part of an ideology that regards art, because before perestroika was recognized only one kind of art - Socialist Realism, and all the institutions here have been imprisoned just for him. And yet, 20 years old later, the problems associated with the change being felt - Do not lose the skill, which was very important in the Soviet school of painting "- named one of the alleged Vickery topics for discussion. Meanwhile, she makes no secret that first book will be useful for the Western public, which only became interested in art, and not necessarily only to the Russian. "Naturally, I did the book to western readers, describing what is happening now in Russia with Art", - says the author of Frozen Dreams, and adds that, as a rule, people know more about the pre-revolutionary art, early twentieth century avant-garde and less - about art of the last 50 years, since on this subject there are not many books, most recently, she said, moreover, was published 22 years ago. "So the question is clearly long overdue", - summed up the agency interlocutor. http://www.ria.ru/culture/20111127/498991754.html |
