in Moscow has opened a private museum of Russian icons

In Moscow on January 25 has opened a private museum of Russian icons, according to a press release received by "Lentu.ru. The new museum, created by entrepreneur, philanthropist and art collector Michael Abramov, located at street Pottery, Building 3, near the metro station Taganskaya.

The museum's collection has about 4000 monuments of Old Russian and Eastern Christian art, including about 600 icons. Previously, a collection of the Museum of Russian Icons partially exposed in the business center "Vereiskaya Plaza (since 2006), as well as in exhibitions at the Tretyakov Gallery (2008), the Pushkin Museum (2009) and in other museums both in Russia and abroad.

Now that the museum had his own room - two on the potter's house street, united in one building. The total area of the museum as a result was 2500 square meters. Among the most valuable exhibits include a subscription icon of the Virgin Odigitrii performed by Simon Ushakov, the icon of St. Nicholas of Myra XIV century iconostasis of the Greek end of the XVII century.

At the opening ceremony of the museum, Mikhail Abramov handed Representatives Rosokhrankultura acquired for the museum altarpiece wooden cross the middle of the XVI century. "We wanted to have in the collection of such a cross, and spent many years in his search in the auction houses and private collections abroad" - said Abramov. However, when importing to Russia turned out that he was kidnapped, in connection with which it was returned and the Rostov Kremlin.

Director of the Museum of Russian Icons - Nicholas Zadorozhnyi. The museum is open daily, except Wednesdays, from 11:00 to 19:00.
