- I was born on October 6, 1928 in Kyzyl-Orda (Kazakhstan). At that time my father worked for the People's Commissar of Health of the Republic. - How did you become an artist?

- The first name of "artist" I got to ... Butyrskaya, and this story requires a separate story. In the autumn of 1941, when the German was eager to Moscow and the likelihood of "Blitzkrieg" was very real, several of the same green as I am, the boys decided to arm themselves to repel the enemy in their native land. Get a weapon at the time was not a problem, and after a while we were a small but truly armed "combat unit". Now we need to learn to shoot and throw grenades accurately than we do and started using the local open spaces and ravines. Of course, they found well-wishers who knocked on us to be. - After the war, I enrolled at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute and graduated with honors in 1953. - Why did you decide to leave the country?

- Oddly enough, my exile is more economic than political reasons. In 1973 I retired from "Kolobok" and began working on contracts in various publishing houses. But after a while it was one of "bad" art, although it was far from the "left" art. Gradually, one after the other publishers have simply ceased to give me a job. Therefore, after long and painful deliberation, I decided to leave the country.

- How you met in the West?

- In France, where I decided to settle down, I took a good, true, first, I was forced to exist by selling books from his library. I remember, for example, "rescued" a rare instance of "vote for" Mayakovsky, the sale of which gave me the opportunity to work quietly, without thinking about their daily bread, for a sufficiently long time. Helped me and a famous collector George Costakis, the first who had bought me a few lithographs, and then loaned me money for the purchase of the studio.
