House Sotheby's Damien Hirst returned to pre-crisis level
Sotheby's has put its bid the October number of works by Damien Hirst, with estimates equal to pre-crisis levels. Agency Bloomberg cites now "Retribution" from "The Butterfly", valued at 450-650 thousand pounds. In September 2008, when the price of Hirst has not yet begun to fall and interest in the things he was on top, working from the same series was exhibited for 500 thousand pounds, and went under the hammer for 1.6 million pounds.
In the first months of crisis, when the art market is particularly hard hit sector of contemporary art, works by Hirst, one of the most expensive artists of the last decade, practically ceased to sell. For example, in March 2009 at the first Sotheby's auction in Doha remained unclaimed at once two works from the series "Butterflies", valued at 1.2 million dollars each. At the same time in November 2008-First, that is in the midst of crisis, Hirst himself has promised to cut prices of their products. Nevertheless, in June 2009 analysts noted revival: one more picture from the series "Butterflies" in London, found a buyer for 657 thousand pounds (within the peer review).
Art dealers, evaluating new proposals for Hirst's work, note that the time for correction of the price of this artist has come, and the market for his works can be quite lively.
