Canvases with a catch
150th anniversary of Edvard Munch in Oslo By the sesquicentennial anniversary of the main Norwegian artist National Gallery and the Munch Museum in Oslo produced tremendous exposure. The National Gallery show early work until the early twentieth century, the museum - all the rest. For millions of people Munch - a picture of the artist, the exhibition and anniversary are doing everything to attention turned to other, equally great job. Oslo - VALENTIN deacon. The exhibition, in the truncated version is presented in London and Paris, there are hundreds of stories that make up the life of Munch. The artist has not mastered a perfect technique that enabled him to find the complete formula of despair in "Scream" and a symbol of love in "The Kiss", where individuals lovers form a single closed line. Perhaps too free manner and did not give Munch to find a common language with the state: from the end of XIX century it several times trying to find the money for the building, which was shown to constantly "Frieze of Life" - a scenic loop that includes both "Scream" and "Jealousy" and the no less famous (because it, too, like "Scream" stolen) "Madonna." To carry out his project - and the world would get the very misanthropic, monumental painting in the world. Alas, Munch was a competitor of the sculptor Gustav Vigeland: he was allowed to decorate hundreds of sculptures Frogner Park in Oslo. It turned out not less scary than the "Frieze of Life", in fact, but smooth in shape - and tourists enjoy taking pictures next to the tragically skewed bodies. In Frogner Park realize that Munch is not marginal, as the spokesman of the spirit of the nation: on the background of the huge composition of the inevitability of suffering and death, "Scream" seems quite cheerful. Celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of Munch (he was born 12 December 1863) pass in the days of another, much more tragic anniversary. June 5, 1901 in Tiflis hotel son of a wealthy coal industrialist Vladislav Emerick shot in the head of his mistress, Dagny Juel, and then tried to kill himself, though without success. Dagny husband, writer Stanislaw Przybyszewski, too, was going to go to Tbilisi, but canceled his participation at the last moment. Now it is believed that Emerick said Przybyszewski that wants to end his life, and he persuaded him to send to the light and boring Dagny. Przybyszewski face, reminding the viewer of the Russian portraits Rasputin, emblazoned on the forefront of Munch paintings "Jealousy" (1895) - they were friends with Munch, there are other, less lurid portraits of the writer of the Commonwealth. And with Dagny Munch was a friend, perhaps not platonic, but the evidence intimate relationship, researchers have found. Such a massacre turned around sometimes first sexual revolution of the industrial age, in which Munch, the son of a pastor, plunged with energy, then turning around years of repentance and soul-searching. By 1901, the artist came devastated. Shot in the hotel for miles and miles away from his native Norway, summed up under two decades of work and research. Beginning of the twentieth century was the time for Munch enhanced introspection and - at first - unsuccessful struggle with alcoholism: the ups and downs of the decadent carried out on the solid fuel. It was in the 1900s, he wrote the most horrible job in his boundless heritage (archives Munch in Oslo has some 6-7 thousand drawings plus thousands of paintings). Macabre scenes in a closed room space, a sealed green wallpaper by neurotic glow reminiscent of paintings by James Ensor and just burgeoning of the "bridge." Munch as if rehearsing again and again Dagny death and the drama that preceded it. Portrait of Dagny in 1893 is probably one of the best in Munch in this genre: beauty with a slight smile shines on a dark blue background. He was never a realist, but here in the heroes and not human remains. In another story of Dagny responds in two variations on the story of a revolutionary assassination of Marat (1906). We like to know who is the killer, but a nude woman standing next to the bed (not the bathroom, as it is) is as a victim who lost her virginity - at least juicy blood spots closer to her and not to Marat. "Bathers Men" (1907), local researchers is seen as a sign that Munch gradually finds the man's strength - in the broadest sense, but first of all power to resist its own vices and weaknesses. Smiling longhorn written in the angular, Cezanne's style will remind fans of Russian avant-garde of the "Self-portrait and a portrait of Petr Konchalovsky" - one of the most important paintings by Russian Futurism. Militant budetlyaninom Munch, however, does not get: in the center of his attention still remain women (which the founder of Futurism Marinetti wanted to throw off the ship of modernity). He became famous Munch painting "The Sick Child" (1886) depicts an older sister on her deathbed. At the most scandalous picture of the early - "Puberty" (1894-1895) - a teenager draws the viewer a look of horror at the impending puberty. Red-haired Undine in "Vampire" kissing (or biting?) In the neck bent to the ground man. Sexless creature in the "Scream" - a rarity for Munch. Usually sexual roles are underlined, are paraded. It was only in the 1920s in a series of self-portraits with nude models women are not as aggressive and self-sacrificing energy, turning into a neo-classical statues. And in the landscapes in Munch more and sunnier. He died, however, under the roar of cannon fire, in 1944, before their regular demonstrations inhumanity of man and the triumph of death. Eckel - a magnificent example of the studio era of early modernism. Saturated with light and airy studio space in common with the luminous way of your own home and studio of Konstantin Melnikov.

I was reading the week before the article in Weekend. and could not understand one thing . why , some times referred to "Scream" in different variations, and never ( well, for the readers ) are not recalled , and , in fact, about what " one picture " is about and why. Still, when to work - № 1 in the world ranking - it's weird.
