List of museums in Prague will join the Museum of Russian Art

On December 7, Prague opened a private museum of Russian art, rare in its significance of cultural and community project outside Russia. It will be located in the historic center of Prague at Little Square (Malé náměstí), a stone's throw from the main attractions - the Old Town astronomical clock.
The idea of the museum belongs to living in Prague rossiyaninu Valeri Larionov, has devoted many years of painstaking search, acquisition and restoration of works of Russian artists. The initial exposition of the museum is made up entirely from his private collection. It includes 250 works of Russian artists of XVIII-XX centuries, and the list of authors has 150 names, including those from the golden treasury of Russian art. This Aivazovsky NK ("The burning ship at night" and "Sea near Yalta), AP Bogolyubov (Naples), Shishkin ("Stream"), Levitan II ("Evening on the lake"), Nesterov MV ("St Barbara"), IE Repin ("The path to July), etc. Some of the works in the museum are still considered lost to historians and art lovers. Now they again become available to the public.
The catalog, published to mark the opening of the museum, the deputy director of the Tretyakov Gallery, member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Honored Artist of Russia Lidiya Iovleva expressed his pleasure that the collection of Valery Nikolayevich Larionov "grown to the level of the museum and found the room and museum status.
Opening of a museum of Russian art in Prague in conjunction with the approaching anniversary of the Czechoslovak unprecedented assistance program of the Russian emigration of the first wave, which began in 1921 and went down in history under the title "Russian campaign."

Visit to Prague collector Valeri Larionov

06-12-2003|Loreto Vashkov

When I repeatedly passed on a quiet street of Prague district of Vinohrady, my head could not come to that under the roof of one of its houses are kept imperishable evidence of exceptional talent of Russian artists. This was the reason for my acquaintance with the Prague collector Valery Larionov, a conversation that we bring to your attention.

artist Vasily Vereshchagin - Over what period of time going to this collection?

- My research activity continues for about ten years from the time when I arrived in Prague. I learned that the exhibition of Russian artists were in the Czech Republic regularly since 1886, when Vasily Vereshchagin in the Rudolfinum by Patriotic Society of the Friends of Art "was presented in 1943 his paintings. It was the first inhabitants of the Czech Republic dating - at that time it was the Austro-Hungarian Empire - the works of Russian artist. In 1898 VVVereschagin already demonstrated its 154 works from the series "Napoleon in Russia". In addition, from 1898 to 1900 more than 200 of his works are exhibited Nicholas Roerich, Vladimir D. Polenov, artists' World of Art "- in 1912 in Prague, was presented by 21 artists of this association. Over the entire period mentioned, including the present, the Czech Republic has been more than 50 exhibitions of Russian artists. After 1968 it was suspended, and only in 70-80 years. again began to exhibit the works of Russian artists from the vaults of the Prague National Gallery.

- The latest exhibition of Russian artists was held in the city is ...

B is in August 2003, exhibited about 100 Russian artists. Having studied the catalogs of exhibitions held in Prague, I came to the conclusion that many works of Russian artists settled in private collections, antiques. That was the beginning of my collecting activities, as was the beginning of my collection, which currently has more than 100 works by such renowned artists such as Levitan, Aivazovsky, Bogolyubov, Korovin, Benoit and many others.

- whether to keep any documents indicating how the public at that time adopted a work by Russian artists?

- Living in Prague in the late 19 th century focused on the Austrian, German, French paintings, and exhibition of Russian artists, has caused them great concern. In the first 10-15 years of 20 th century interest in the Czechs to Russian art and history of waking up in force to strengthen the Slavic identity. Should take into account the fact that in Russia there was the October Revolution, many artists moved from Russia to Europe and are demonstrating their work. As an example of interest to their creativity can result in the following figures: some of the exhibitions at that time was attended by about 20-30 thousand spectators. About them out articles in newspapers and magazines. We can say that these exhibitions have begun collecting the Czech works of Russian artists. This at this time I do I do.

- What makes it difficult to find these works?

- You have to find three, five and seven years, owners of the paintings changed - sometimes two or three times, but still find them, we conduct negotiations with them and with the opportunity to acquire this painting.

- What a find was the reason for the first joy?

- The very first and amazing picture, which was purchased by me, this painting by Alexei Petrovich Bogolyubov "Naples. Vesuvius. This happened as follows: to eliminate an antique store in Prague's Vinohrady district. I called the store owner and said that he is painting by an unknown author, signed in Russian. He offered to come and see the picture. Arriving, I found it in poor condition, very dirty form, without a frame. I saw that painting - very interesting, although not able to immediately identify its author. Only when the picture was washed, it turned out that this is - a great painting AP Bogolyubov, dated 1870

- in your collection are also paintings VV Vereshchagin. What is the background of their purchase?

- Vereshchagin, as I mentioned, has exhibited his first work in 1886, Exceptional Russian painter of battle-pieces was in the royal military school. In 1860, after finishing school, he leaves the army and going to the Caucasian war as a free artist. In my collection are two of Vereshchagin. This essay "mountain", which you can see, written in 1860, when he came to the Caucasus and was struck by its nature, this essay is permeated with admiration. The second paper relates to the Arab period of his work. It is interesting that the picture is marked stamp confirming that it belongs to the family of Count Putyatina. I think these two paintings are worthy exhibits of the collection.

- That is, they all this time, after having been exposed, were in the Czech Republic?

- Pictures Vereshchagin participated in many exhibitions at the time, but the data from the catalogs of exhibitions do not pass. They were acquired from private collections in Prague. Therefore, we hope that in the Czech Republic, perhaps, is still a lot to us unknown paintings Vereshchagin.

Here you can listen to recorded interviews with Valery Larionov.

Not sure what the question really on, but most do not know where to ask it ...
Recently in Prague, lived, and I hope that now live a well-known Russian collector Boris Gribanov. Consummate connoisseur of Ivan Aivazovsky, who Theodosia museum was at least half of his collection confiscated from Gribanova, as well as other Russian marine painters. His areas of interests include Russian and classic portrait, and even world-class collection of Russian avant-garde. With many artists he knew personally. Ie assembled a collection of my ideas, the level of G. Kostaki.
His veteran of World War II, was sentenced to a real period of 10 years in prison for speculation paintings, a large part of the collection was confiscated.
Some part (mostly avant-garde), he was able to remove from the country before, thanks to relatives.
Several years ago, a book of his memoirs, "The paintings and life."
Question: Do we know anything about his collection now exhibited Does she have a catalog, and whether it will be relevant to the Russian Museum in Prague?

If my question is not free, it can probably go somewhere to move ...
