Default "Mark Rothko: the unknown world", an exhibition in the "Garage"

He can talk about endlessly - tricks, twists of fate, role, value ... the most expensive in the list of Russian artists. Savage innovator, able, after fifty years of poverty are thrown in the face to the customer tens of thousands of dollars. And at this infinitely vulnerable, full of doubts in his election.

Now tell and about a biography, and about forty centimeters distance from which to watch his canvases, to feel the vibration from the peripheral vision ...

All this is important. And in the context of the image becomes much clearer. But the scale of Rothko painting easier. There are the creators of vanity, ambition, a burning desire to please. They offer viewers harmony, scenic poetry, sing their own praises and bathe in the comfort of worship. Rothko - quite different.

His work is devoid of romanticism: he howled, cursed, tears nerve and sends the world into four American letters, has long forgotten three Russian. And when this frenzy falls to the canvas, then all issues are removed. There's someone - a role - a place - shmesto - humbug - genius.

Suppose that is not always. Even not always. But when I can - brilliant.

Great burn not for long. How long do not burn. Abstract Expression Rothko lit in the early fifties and almost completely extinguished by the end of 1960. To paraphrase, Rothko was thus a pioneer in Rothko only in his fifties. A suicide sick, exhausted and devastated by the artist were reduced in 67 years.

Rothko exhibition brought to Moscow for the first time. This is really cool, without any irony. And we see that over her shaking. It is understandable - on the walls hang works, individual copies of which cost tens of millions in market prices. And these 12 pieces. It may therefore be felt by some of the problems with the hospitality (prohibitions on shooting for photographers while permits for filming of television cameras, all of iron - on the table, a bottle of water to pass, alert the numerous guards, some utterly redundant tommy in front). But it is to survive for the sake of a unique event.
The exhibition will be at the center of modern culture "garage" until August 14, 2010.

Complete Daily photo essay do not let them. Therefore publish photos from the disc, distributed by the organizers. It is, perhaps, for the better. Poluchlos would be bad - the light in the room put up too dull (maybe it's necessary for safety?).
The exhibition catalog, sold in the same, worth 700 rubles. On paper, things look brighter than alive.

After visiting the exhibition's perceptions of a pulsating spots "has become even worse. How to answer one of the visitors next to the question "and what the big deal? - "Look at the dirty wallpaper, and rejoice." Available in one place so many of his works does not benefit the perception of creativity Rothko. And after the show I had the even greater lack of understanding of cosmic prices for its work, especially given that these 13 works are insured for 0.5 million dollars!

Here, as in any business is important mood. And the willingness to forgive some shortcomings. Of the 12 works subjectively, only five are outstanding. And the rest - depressive black Rothko, too, is not my hero. Plus, with lighting, I think, overtricked. There are some problems. However, it is another chance to see Rothko concentrated in Russia was not. Those same seven grim picture to force myself to watch is not necessary.

By the way, a thing with the effect of pulsation and the environment at a distance of 40 centimeters works. Especially on things with a vertical pattern.

A bit off topic, just here for the link went to a list of the most expensive Russian artists, and somehow I was not clear. And Rothko вобщем something no Russian artist, in my opinion. Neither the origin nor the school. Arshile Gorky, in general, I think any side. Born in Turkey, he studied painting in America.
I used to think that this complex affects numerically small nation, but that's not the same.
That fact and can not be called Aivazovsky Armenian artist.
(Oh, now begin stoning ...)
