Convicted Paul Barrett of the English Bradford faces a fine of 75 thousand dollars. He was found guilty in the fact that wagering on the second computer in order to raise the price of goods, which he put on the electronic auction. Paul Barrett admitted that not only he himself put forward false offers to purchase their goods through eBay, but requested to do so of their friends and relatives.
Such practices increase the price of the lot known as the "dummy bidding". It is widely used by dishonest sellers on eBay. But only now, for the first time the existence of the Internet, used this method fraudster found guilty of committing a crime.
According to ITAR-TASS, the court found at least 10 auctions, in which Barrett used illegal methods. Under current UK law, for every such action the offender shall be punished by a fine equivalent to 7,5 thousand dollars.
