Soutine, Chaim Solomonovich (born January 13, 1893)
Chaim Soutine (Chaim Soutine Solomonovich, fr. Chaim Soutine, January 13, 1893, Śmiłavičy Minsk province - August 9, 1943, Paris, France) - French painter of Jewish origin.
He was named in honor of his grandfather. At seventeen Haim entered into the service of well-known lawyer Vilno Rubinlihtu. It was he who first drew attention to the drawings of young men. We do not know what he was captivated in the outline - most of them lost. In the catalog of the auction Christie for the 80-ies are only two images of Vilnius period - a sort of imitation of Coro. Counsel gave Haim letter of recommendation in Vilna Judaism Society Promotion of the Arts. And there too he was persuaded to go to Paris - to learn from the artist.
