По умолчанию Artprice sued retaliatory action at Christie's - may be interested in us history

It began this way: Two years ago Christie's at Artprice filed in court to demand payment of 2000000 euros for use of the name of the company (Christie's), which it considers a brand, as well as images from the upcoming auction catalogs, which she describes as a violation of copyright. A few days ago and two days before their trial Christie's has increased the amount it requires to Artprice, up to EUR 60000000

In response to Artprice required to compensate her moral damage which she suffered from the actions Christie's, also in the amount of 60000000 euro.

Artprice believes that Christie's has no reason to bring her claim because the upcoming auction catalogs are not subject to copyright law, which, in particular, proved that she Christie's decided to impose their usual VAT (19.6%), not reduced (5.5%), as applied in the case of artistic works, which are subject to copyright.

What it will end, we svkorosti know.

And the moral of the story? I understand that Christie's has decided to collect some reward for the use of the content of its catalogs - to spoil the head does not hurt

And then I remembered an interesting detail: at Findartinfo often not the most interesting pictures of lots sold in recent times - hence, this phenomenon can not be explained by the fact that the database at the time was not yet complete. I noticed that most of these neillyustrirovannyh lots were sold at Sotheby 's.
So perhaps it makes sense to assume that the two auction houses are trying to ban free reproduction of their photos?

In the case of Hirst, too, often had no pictures, but I suspect that this is because "not for a wide range (who needs to buy, pictures looking optional).
Why? Buy're not "things", and prestige. (Someone here and there sometimes)
