Kletzel Veniamin Mikhailovich (05. 05. 1932) studied at Tashkent Art College and the Theater Institute. Ostrovsky (art department).
Since 1967, he lived in Kuibyshev. Since 1990, lives in Israel.

You hold in your hands an album dedicated to the artist's Benjamin Kletzel. I am happy for those who met again with his art, and envy those who first saw his paintings - bright, deep, varied, full of joy and sadness, irony and love, philosophy, and smiles, sometimes ironic and always painted with surprise and delight for life in all its manifestations.
What distinguishes the artist from the ordinary person? He has a special eye capable of seeing things that do not see the other, a special hand motion which is transferred onto canvas phenomena of the world, particularly the heart, through which the suffering and joys of life. We Kletzel eyes the color of the sea in Eilat, and piercing gaze, he has a strong, powerful hand of an artisan, his heart full of love for people and the admiration of the world, our complex and contradictory world.
"Self-Portrait" 1998 (ill. 1) looks at us is not that severe, but very carefully and seriously, look penetrates the soul, the heart of things, no wonder the hand holding the brush firmly - as a weapon, and the world around so fierce, diverse and beautiful! He wants to see and understand everything and then give us - in the precious radiance of the colors, hints, for which read a lot. Not only beautifully sculpted face, not only psychological depth, the very background of this work makes to stop and admire not just decorative touches, but the story about the beauty of life, glimpsed impressions.
The world outlook of the artist evolved gradually. Childhood in the Ukrainian town of Pervomaisk: Memory of Childhood "(ill. 26), where old and dear to the heart Primus lantern fish in a frying pan, white huts," a small-town artist (ill. 33), moping on the hill, with a palette and brushes such a wise and such "not of this world." Then - evacuation in Tashkent.

Kletzel said: "I am grateful to people who put us up then." Tashkent I remember those years. Despite the difficult war years, everything is perceived as a holiday: donkeys, camels, reaching the city, women in veils, clay fences, smell pilaf - all created special color. Oriental themes, scorching sun, the brightness of the color palette has been one of the artist.
He drew from his childhood. In Tashkent, visited the art room at the Palace of Pioneers, and then graduated from art college and picturesque section of Theater and Art Institute. With constant warmth and admiration recalls Kletzel their teachers: really wonderful artist Alexander Volkov, wizard Pomegranate tea house, and many others. He spoke little about himself, but willingly and passionately about those around him in Tashkent artists: Yuri Taldykina, Vladimir Burmakin, Evgenia Melnikova, Rouses Charyeva and Garik Silbermann, who now also lives in Jerusalem.
During the four years of service in the army Kletzel not leave the pencil and brush, even participated in large exhibitions. After moving to Samara, where lived many years, worked as a teacher in art school, he taught drawing architecture students in the Construction Institute.
Of Benjamin Kletzel many titles: Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, assistant professor of drawing in the Construction Institute, member of numerous exhibitions ... But the chief of his "title" - Jerusalem artist, and major works written after repatriation in 1990. Here he really found himself, found his subject, his heroes. On his hit as many impressions: the ancient stones of Jerusalem, olive groves, narrow streets, bottomless blue sky, which sky and do not call it, - heaven, a fierce sun and - the Jews, bearded and forever, as they are the eternal city.
In Kletzel his Jerusalem. He found a paint, which was not anybody, he disclosed only his peculiar vision of the events.

Painting "Anxiety" (ill. 8) was written after the terrorist attack in Jerusalem. Depicted not the explosion (18-th bus), not its bloody consequences, on the canvas - an allegory of Terror: howling dog over the city against the backdrop of a crimson sky, the tragedy of the state transferred with great force. The artist said that the picture is often born out of some hint flashed impressions. It never "from nature", not copying what he saw as a profound rethinking and creating an artistic image.
Once at the Wailing Wall on Simhat Torah, he saw religious Jews, dancing with Torah scrolls. From this was born one of his finest paintings - "Simchat Torah" (ill. 17). Equipped suitably in a circle, holding hands, Jews are the unity, underline muted color. The artist does not seek to self-characterization of the characters, they look like the main thing - the general condition, mood. Kletzel examines the work of outstanding artists of the past and present. His idols and favorite wizard - Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Chaim Soutine (a magnificent portrait of the latter submitted to the album - ill. 36).
Art Kletzel difficult to classify to any artistic direction. Sometimes he "Fauvism" - a riot of colors and overlapped over the edge of brightness. And sometimes - "minimalist" when shown so little, and said so much. In one of his best works - "Le Chaim!" (ill. 22) - sit around a table big noses big-eyed Jews. Siddur, shofar, menorah, five glasses of wine, lonely fish on a plate so thin crescent of the month. All. Where are they - on earth or in heaven - such as brothers similar to each other people related the same fate, one mood, one tune? As if out of the blue moonlight woven figures "Purim" (ill. 37), muted, almost monochrome palette and precise rhythm of composition constitute the charm of this picture.
In canvases Kletzel before us is a succession of images: Jews with roosters and fish, gorlanyaschie roosters, "watermelon eaters. One can endlessly enjoy these pictures, surprisingly different. But we always feel the artist's hand, his only his view of the world.
We Kletzel many self-portraits, and it is a separate page of his paintings. They do not complimentary, the artist is not afraid to show themselves acutely, almost ugly, laugh and mourn over themselves, over life.
His "hedge" (ill. 21) - is tragic and unforgettable. This is certainly grotesque, but how much expression in his face and movements!
Quite different - "Portrait of Glory" (ill. 24). Thank Bondarenko - wife, friend, everlasting support and support herself an artist, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, sang leading roles in the opera house in Samara. In the portrait to emphasize its beauty, great sense of dignity, love and tenderness breathes here every stroke. Unlike plot canvases in portraits Kletzel manifests itself deep psychologist. Most often, he writes of creative people close to him in spirit. These are the portraits of the artist Leon Meyer (ill. 7), poet Igor Huberman (ill. 9).
Benjamin Kletzel - a professional high class. Although, in his words, in the film "School should not stick out, but his artistic language is always expressive and different skills. He makes a lot of sketches, in his release more than 2500 drawings - fine, alive. Creativity Kletzel diverse. He has not only paintings and drawings, but also the creation of scenery for theatrical productions, design literature. In Israel, came out a few books with his illustrations, the book is mostly friends and associates, which he found here. The artist is happy and proud of his friendship with creative people. "During 15 years of living in Israel, Benjamin Kletzel had nine solo exhibitions in Jerusalem, one in Tel Aviv, two - in Russia and one - in the United States. The artist's works - in museums, galleries and private collections in Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, Israel, Russia, USA, France, South Africa.
Benjamin's Center is located in a house on Jaffa Road in downtown Jerusalem. It smells wonderful paints and turpentine on the walls and shelves in the huge number of paintings. Their world mnogozvuchen: singing and praying Hasidim, screaming roosters, people, animals, landscapes, still lifes painted with only Kletzel peculiar combination of wisdom and childlike.
The artist works in the shop every day and make new discoveries, creates paintings and shares with us the most cherished, gives us the joy of fellowship with great skill.

Nothing from nothing happens. My uncle works and it was good. Many borrow-Buch, Tyshler, Soutine, Molilyani ... But Buha was the system and therefore it is original. I think that all Russian artists are working there since. Rubina's husband for example. I have the impression that I have seen. Maybe I'm wrong, time will judge.
