Nisenbaum was born in 1925 in Leningrad in a family of an engineer. After graduation in 1942 he was drafted into the army and sent to the Lepel mortar school. Since 1943, he served in the gunner settlement antitank guns. After demobilization in 1946 he entered the office of monumental and decorative painting of the Leningrad Higher Industrial Arts School.
