Painting, drawing and ceramics one of the most brilliant Russian-Jewish artists of the twentieth century, Anatoly Davidov Kaplan - a thematic exhibition gallery on the stand "Vellum" (within the Antiquarian Salon at CHA, 2 floor, from 28 February to 8 March 2009).
Gallery "Vellum", regularly participating in the Russian Antique Salon, recently focused on realizing at the salons of thematic exhibitions. It is these projects - bringing together the work of artists in one direction or the local and the quality of the exhibition of one artist - and is, perhaps, the most important and fundamental thing that makes Antique Art Salon, and still attracts visitors and specialists. The purpose of many participants - to sell and make money, even if you can not avoid Tapestry hanging, the temptation to "hung on the walls all in a row that had accumulated what can and can not sell" - of course, understandable. Especially in the present time. Yet much more interesting and sophisticated looks more and more as a non-profit, and quite commercial, but the thematic projects. The exhibition of one of the brightest Russian-Jewish artists of the twentieth century, Anatoly Kaplan (1903-1980), represented by the gallery "Vellum" in XXVI Rossiyskogo Antique Salon, is just such a project. Director of art galleries Love Agafonov told about the project: "The exhibition includes more than 30 works by Anatoly Davidov Kaplan. This tempera on canvas, pencil drawings 1930-1960's., And ceramics, worthy of museum collections, displaying the household and religious culture of Yiddish-land, original tale of "paradise of memories." Expressive, blue-red canvases - "An Evening to Saturday," "The Prayer" - reference works by the master. His pencil drawings, are rare in the antiques market, written as if through the haze of the vision of the old town: "Geese," "Sunflowers" - a natural phenomenon here is actually hidden image worshipers in Thales. Major exhibition of works by Kaplan held the State Russian Museum (2006), and the Museum of Private Collections (2007). ANATOLIY L'VOVICH KAPLAN, (real name Tanhum Leyvikovich) (1903-1980). He was born in Rogachev (Mogilev province) in the family butcher. He studied at the Higher Artistic-Technical Institute (VHUTEIN) in Petrograd-Leningrad (1921-1927) at the GS Vereisk and AA Rylova. He lived in Leningrad, often naezzhaya to their homes in the former Pale of Settlement, where he studied the remaining traces of traditional Jewish life and culture. In 1937-1940 he worked in led Vereisky Experimental lithographic workshop LOSH (Leningrad branch of the Union of Artists). In his compositions in the spirit of "quiet art" (or some kind of lyrical expressionism) - predominantly black and white and color lithographs - resumed its characteristic motifs of pre-revolutionary "Jewish renaissance", who sought to enter the ancient symbols of Judaism and small-town theme "Yiddish culture" in the mainstream of modern art. Old family photographs, ethnographic sketches, reminiscences of the sacral decor tombstones in the images are Kaplan's romantic and beautiful alloy. Among his works - the albums on the theme of Sholom Aleichem (Kasrilovka, 1941; Enchanted tailor, 1957; Tevye the Milkman, 1961; Stempenyu, 1968) and the cycle of Jewish folk songs (1963). Performed a series of Leningrad during the blockade (1944-1949) in his typical shaky, as if "streaming" manner. In recent decades, are increasingly advocated as a painter easel, in the schedule amplifying linear beginning (cycle of etchings Rogachev, 1970's). In the years 1967-1969 Kaplan deals with ceramics, creating dishes, plates, small volume of plastic fire clay, painted with colored glazes subjects ranging themes of his charts ( "Double Portrait", "Golden Wedding", "Goat" and others). In ceramics, the same was executed and his final work - a series of explanations of "Dead Souls" NV Gogol. Works Anatoly Kaplan exhibited at numerous exhibitions in various cities of the world, including the dedicated 100-th anniversary of Sholem Aleichem in New York in 1959.
