He was born in Arzamas 13 February 1776, he studied at a local icon painter and small public college. 12 December 1795 adopted podkantselyaristom Novgorod namestnicheskogo Board, worked in the drawing class J. Continuing to teach drawing and art history at school, he paints the years 1821-1823 with his son Raphael and students council of the Nizhniy Novgorod fair. At the completion of the Resurrection Cathedral Arzamas paints him in the technique of grisaille, writes iconostasises on private orders: in the village Petin, Salme, repair, Penza.

In 1842 the art school building burned down. Arts Academy, commending its contribution to education in Russia, contributed to the restoration of 5000 rubles, Rector V.I.Demut-Malinovsky sent to Arzamas party plaster casts of antiquities.

Deterioration of health and age forced AV Stupina to transfer from school to its best students (NM Alekseev). July 31, 1861 AV Stupina died. With his death soon ceased to exist Art School.
