"Last Supper" by Leonardo da Vinci's destroying breath of visitors ...
Fresco "The Last Supper" by Leonardo da Vinci threatening breathing visitors exhaled destructive damp air containing organic compounds. In 1821, Stefano was transferred Baretstsi painting to a safer place, but seriously damaged the central section, before realized that the work of Leonardo is not a fresco. From 1901 until 1908 Luigi Cavenaghi for the first time made a careful study of the structure of painting, and then proceeded to its clearance. In 1924 Oreste Silvestri undertook further clearing and stabilize some of the plaster. During World War II, August 15, 1943, the refectory was subjected to bombing. Sandbags prevent fragments of bombs painted, but had a harmful impact vibration. In 1951-1954. Mauro Pellicholi perform another restoration. But already in 1970 heavily damaged fresco look. From 1978 to 1999 Pinin Brambilla led Barsilon carried out large-scale restoration project, whose goal was preservation of painting, cleaning it from pollution and negative effects, as well as restoration of interventions undertaken in the XVIII and XIX centuries. Since moving painting to a more suitable environment for the further preservation is not possible, an environment with a controlled climate regime decided to establish itself in the refectory, which had to wall up the windows. Then a study of painting using infrared reflectoscope. Some parts of painting was considered beyond repair. These sites are re-finished the watercolor muted colors, allowing the show without distracting the viewer's attention, they are not original work. The restoration took 21 years.
