Xu Beyhuna painting was sold by auction in Beijing for a record $ 42 million


BEIJING, December 6 - RIA Novosti, Oleg Ostroukhov. Painting a famous Chinese artist Xu Beyhuna sold in the ongoing Beijing Poly Auction autumn auction for a record 266.8 million yuan (42 million dollars), according to the posted online auction company's message.

Xu Beyhun (1895-1953 years) is considered one of the patriarchs of modern Chinese painting, united national artistic traditions of the achievements of European painting. The total amount of auction sales of its products in 2010 amounted to 176.3 million dollars.

The picture size of 150 by 250 centimeters, written by a master in 1951, depicts a scene of peasant labor: a peasant plowing on a buffalo, and two others till the soil with hoes. The starting price on the canvas was 150 million yuan, then it increased 20 times.

So far, the most expensive painting was Xu Beyhuna canvas depicting farmers to draw water from the river. It was sold at auction in December 2010 for 171 million yuan.

In September of this year, around one of his works Xu Beyhuna sold for 11.4 million dollars at auction Beijing JiuGe Auctions in Beijing in June 2010, a scandal erupted. Painting, which shows the alleged wife of the artist, some experts considered it a hoax.

Art auctions in China are not responsible for the authenticity of the exposed lots. They are only required to express an opinion on the artistic value of the lot to which the purchaser can listen or not. Chinese law does not provide a formal licensing of the expert evaluation of works of art.
