Exhibition "Treasures of the Hermitage" opens at Madrid's Prado Museum

The exhibition entitled "Treasures of the Hermitage Museum" will be presented 179 exhibits.

The exposition reveals the diversity of art movements in the period of its development since the V century BC to the XX century.

For the exhibition Masterpieces of the Hermitage Museum Prado allocated all of its exhibition space.

Among the works which will see visitors to the Prado, "Lute Player" Caravaggio, "Saint Sebastian" and Titian's "St. Sebastian" Ribera, "Breakfast" by Velasquez, a marble statue of St. Teresa by Bernini, "Black Square" Kazimir Malevich and "Song 6" Kandinsky painting Monet, Cezanne, Renoir, Matisse, Gauguin.

President of the Royal Council of the sponsor's Prado Museum Placido Arango on the eve of the opening of the exhibition, told reporters that the museums Prado and the Hermitage share one characteristic - they both started their history as a collection of royal personages. So exhibition is made so as to show the importance of collecting art Russian emperors.

"We are honored to host a collection of one of the greatest museums in the world. This is a historic event, because it means the quality of an entirely new stage in cooperation between the Prado and the Hermitage," - said Placido Arango.

In turn, the Hermitage director Mikhail Piotrovsky in a video message to the media pointed out that such large-scale exhibition of the Hermitage abroad has never been.

"The exhibition tells about the Hermitage Museum as a phenomenon. Most of the exhibits were collected by the Russian tsars collectors. Thus, we want to convey to visitors to Russia. I very much hope that the Spanish public exhibition of love," - said Piotrowski.

As expected, the opening ceremony of the exhibition "Treasures of the Hermitage" at the National Museum of Painting and Sculpture Prado will be attended by Minister of Culture Alexander Avdeev, members of the Spanish royal family.

For the public exhibition of masterpieces of the Hermitage Museum will be open from 8 November to 25 March 2012.

At the end of February 2011 in St. Petersburg hosted the opening ceremony of the exhibition at the Hermitage, "Prado at the Hermitage," which gave a start to cross, Russia and Spain.

The event was held with the participation of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Spanish royal couple - King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia.

The exhibition, which includes 66 paintings, covering the period from 1450 to 1820. Among them - the paintings of Bosch, El Greco, Rubens, Velazquez, Goya.

Within three months of the Spanish exhibition in St. Petersburg was visited by more than half a million people.
