April 5, 2011 Mystetsky Arsenal in Kiev will open the International Week of Contemporary Art ambitious project "Space Odyssey 2011", the program is not only the exhibition of works by modern Ukrainian and foreign artists, and a display of space artifacts, film program, art history and popular science lectures . Project Supervisor - Alexander Soloviev.
The project "A Space Odyssey 2011" summarizes attempts to person-creator to realize his place in the universe, to order the chaos of the universe and expand their own ideological boundaries, looking into the future. That is in contrast to the perennial category of "chaos" project is designed to focus on trying to logically organize human reality by means of art, that is, mythologize and aestheticize his being. The project idea resonates with Aristotle's maxim about the cosmos as "the most grandiose work of art." The project is appealing not only to the man in the universe, but also to the inner world of man, ie "microcosm". Space as a myth, as a universe, like a dream, like flying, like a premonition, like another reality - the project participants theme leaves a wide field for their own interpretations and covers the case of cosmogonic to futurological. The project will consist of works that have been created with modern Ukrainian and foreign artists of the past quarter century, as well as present new works by artists that will be created specially for the "Space Odyssey 2011". In addition to paintings and photos of works project refers to the new media, which is impossible without the development of modern art. The draft will be submitted to various video and laser projections, kinetic sculpture, and also planned a series of performances. Among the 130 participants of the project - Paul Althamer, Julius Popp, Jeanne and Louis Wilson, the group Roshus Aust /Re-Load Futura, Alicia Framis, John Vargem, Oleg Kulik, Eva Schlegel, Arsene Savadov Chichkan, Sergei Bratkov, Alexander Gnilitskiy etc . One of the linear motifs of the project will also challenge the relationship between art, philosophy and science, including "space" as a metaphor for the scientific model. Most aptly on the human perception of space expressed by James Joyce: "It haosmos, the mixture of irrational feelings and order, which is dictated by knowledge." That is why the project unites artistic component of the scientific instruments and amazing artifacts from specialized museums that when you move into the context of the new museum complex Mystetsky Arsenal will be subject to a creative excursion into the history of human comprehension of the cosmos.
