Most of his life Paul Gauguin lived in poverty, depression and illness. His work is often not found in demand, the artist dragged out a miserable existence, broke with his family, wandering. In Tahiti, Gauguin spent a very productive time writing 47 paintings. The new collection was exhibited at the auction house Drouot in Paris. The exhibition opened on February 18, 1895. Contrary to expectations, only nine have been sold and the pictures for a small fee. All money raised at the auction, went out to pay the auctioneers.
With funds collected by friends, he was able to return after the failure of an auction in Paris in Polynesia. He faces a fine of 1,000 francs and imprisonment, he escaped by dying of a heart attack.
After the death of Gauguin's series of works created by an artist in Tahiti, acknowledged masterpiece. His paintings are unique in decorative colors, the flatness and the monumentality of composition, generalization, and a stylized image influenced the creative pursuits of many artists of the early 20th century.
