D. Medvedev: We do not know what is stored in museums

  Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev instructed the government to create a single electronic catalog of cultural values. "We do not know what is in museums, and the vast number of exhibits like a cow tongue licked," - said the head of state at a meeting of the State Council Presidium and the Presidency of the Council on the Arts in Veliky Novgorod.

He stressed that "the later loss" should not write off the actions of the Bolsheviks in the last century. Dmitry Medvedev recalled that some time ago, he led the Commission to verify the preservation of cultural values. "I would like to see the commission brought the work to the end not even in order to punish crooks, but to understand what is in our hands," - said the president.

The work will create "a single electronic catalog, which should be available to any citizen of Russia," the radio station "Mayak". "This should be an open pass-through system, it can not spare the money, as in the protection system," - said the head of state.

Also, speaking at the State Council, Russia's president called for a national internet portal, featuring the cultural heritage of the country, and to develop tourist routes to the historical monuments.

New special centralized Internet portal should be interesting, made using the latest technology, the president said, noting the large number of poorly made public sites.

Dmitry Medvedev also invited to search for new unconventional sources of funding for the maintenance of cultural institutions, including reasonable to attract businesses and to cooperate with other countries.
