Rescued Treasures of Ancient Thrace, in the Museum of the East

April 15, 2009 at the State Museum of the East (Nikitsky Boulevard, 12a) in the Year of Bulgaria in Russia opens (at 17.00) exhibition "Treasures of Ancient Thrace, rescued from the collection of Vassil Bozhkova. It will present more than 200 exhibits, demonstrating the art of Thrace, as in the ancient Greeks called the territory of present Bulgaria. These treasures are kept in a land of Bulgaria, came to light, to demonstrate mastery of the ancient artists and open up the secrets of their world view.

The owner of the collection of Vassil Bozhkov allocates huge funds for the restoration of found pieces; offers items from their collections for their research and scientific publications, and is active in promoting the collection and all the art of Ancient Thrace. V. Bozhkov seeks to return products already exported to Bulgaria, Thracian, Thracian buying works of art at foreign auctions and from private collectors. The chronological range of the collection Vassil Bozhkova wide enough - it kept things, dating from 10. BC, when the lands of Thrace widely began to make products of iron and gold, up to 1-2 vv.n.e., when Thrace was incorporated into the Roman Empire as a province.

Thracians in the history of the Ancient World glorify himself as a brave and skillful warriors. One of the oldest exhibits is a unique bronze sword with a hilt decorated with gold, dating from 10.9 cc. BC The exhibition will also demonstrate a few basic types of military helmets, characteristic not only for Thrace, but also for the entire Mediterranean region, 5.4 cc. BC

The Thracians were known for their love of gold and feasting. At the exhibition you will see the expensive dishes, the former mandatory attribute feasts the nobles of the Thracians with their lives, and ended up in tombs and treasures, after the death of their owners. Particularly noteworthy rhytons - special vessels for drinking wine in the form of horns with sculptures completion (protome) below. A large group of exhibits will make a variety of silver bowls for wine, decorated with engraving and gold trim - Vial, Cilicia, kantharos.

Part of a complex burial ritual, revealing the ideology of the Thracians, are funerary attributes that are placed with the deceased in the tomb. The exhibition shows the gold mask, gold face and reproducing tape superimposed on the forehead, a laurel wreath, made of gold, adorned the head of the deceased. The exhibition also displays gold jewelry and rich harness, which after death was accompanied by their owners in a different world.

Exhibition "Rescued Treasures of Ancient Thrace, from the collection of Vassil Bozhkova" will take place thanks to the tremendous work of archaeologists, art historians, restorers and other foundation members "Thrace". It serves as a vivid example of fruitful cooperation of business and science in order to preserve and promote cultural and historical heritage of Bulgaria.
