Ivan Sotnikov - (b. 1961, Leningrad). He studied at night art school № 1 on the Fontanka. Tiskalschikom worked in the print shop, a janitor, a boiler, a watchman of the church in Vyritsa. In 1996 he was ordained priesthood. He was a TEII and the group "New Artists", and later exhibited with the group "Mitka". The artist admitted that he was influenced by the work arefevtsev mainly B. Shagin and that impressed exhibition Larionov. From the beginning, the way he was free, sketch, eventually having become more and more relaxed and simplified. His paintings of the late 1970s - early 1980s. A. Florensky speaks thus: "brash, beautiful color, taste good." She characterized the special light, organic, freshness, spontaneity. In the first half of the 1980s. clearly oriented to primitivism. With its natural looseness, daring and playful attitude to art was one of those who determine the direction of neo-primitivism, who created the style of "new wild." In 1982, he, along with T. Novikov, signed a "Zero-object" - a random rectangular hole in the booth. In the second half of the 1980s. replaces image signs, introduces motifs of popular culture. In the painting there is a "sign avtorsiky" constant motif: spruce with its regular tiers, with rhythmic repetition of formulas. M. Trofimenkov saw in it "a symbol of the harsh natural in an unnatural combination with maudlin."
