Max Alexander (Wolfisheim, 1899 - Strasbourg, 1976), poet and playwright. (First in the top row)
I found his biography in French (well, that is Google) >
Mildly edited my translation.

Moses Max Alexander b. January 24, 1899 in Wolfisheim Alsace, the only son of a Jewish family. Alsace in the years under German sovereignty (Deutsches Reich) from 1871. German, his native tongue, which he wrote his first poems at age twelve.

During the First World War, he moved to Lausanne with his family, where he learned French and met Rene Schickele who introduced him to Romain Rolland. In Zurich, he met with the Dada movement predecessors including Jean Arp. Back in Strasbourg in 1918, he continued his studies and met Louis Aragon, who invited her to join him in Paris, which he did in the early 1920s. He then decides to write only in French. In Paris, he met André Breton, Robert Desnos and the group that founded surrealism. He was active in the surrealist community from 1923 until 1932, when the conflict between Aragon and Breton in particular, membership in the Communist Party (Aragon was for membership, anti-Breton) leads to the exclusion of Aragon. This is followed by Max Alexander, who does not want to compromise on issues of social justice.

In the years 1932 -1939. Maxim Alexander period alone, but very fruitful in a literary work.
In 1939, he was drafted by France and was designated as PR (supposedly revolutionary) in his hut where he suffered abuse and humiliation. Was captured by the Germans in 1940, he managed to miraculously escape and find refuge in the south, where he met Aragon, Jacques Prévert and André Gide. The Second World War has left an indelible mark, which is evident in his publications 1945 - 1946 years.
The crisis continued until the late 40's and peaked in 1949, probably in connection with the death of his mother in the same year. Paul Claudel advised him to turn to Catholicism, December 8, 1949 he was baptized. Claudel became his godfather. After a time of enthusiasm, he will return from the experience with some bitterness.
From the 50's to 1972, he did a great literary work, but in 1972, he fell seriously ill in 1974, writing becomes too painful, he began to draw.
He died in Strasbourg on 12 September 1976. Max Alexander buried according to his own will in the cemetery Rosheim. During his life, he changed his place of residence 35 times.
