it is believed that Russian matryoshka was turned by the model, imported from Japan. According to some reports, dolls appeared in Russia only after the Russo-Japanese war and the return of Japan to Russia prisoners of war.
In Northern China near Harbin in the County Sanji there is a town called Yimianpo. Here are familiar with traditional Russian matryoshka. In 2012 in its production involved about one third of the population.

Classic nesting dolls, magnets, keychains on this subject here manufactured at low cost, then transported to Russia and sell them to tourists. A lot of Souvenirs that are sold at the Izmailovo market in Moscow, actually made in China.

In Yimianpo 62 are factory of dolls, including: 17 plants total production, 31 workshop on painting, 14 factories on wood. All this involved about 3,000 people. Annual sales of almost 15 million units, revenue of about 300 million yuan. They are sold in Harbin, Yiwu, France, Germany and Russia, covering more than 90 percent of the domestic and international market.

Recently for the integration of "family production" and education of industrial ligaments in the town was organized by the Association of Russian dolls in order to centralize a unified set of standards and to keep uniform prices. Also thanks to unique resources and the cluster effect, the town Yimianpo plans to create an industrial Park dolls and to earn the reputation of "Chinatown dolls".
