The Russian artist, representative of "unofficial art", best known for his "camp suite" (or "Gulag-art").
At 1946 meters, while studying at the Institute of applied and decorative arts, was arrested on charges of "anti-Soviet propaganda" and sent to 8 years in concentration camps.
Escorted to Uhtizhemlag (Komi ASSR), was sent to the excavation work. He survived because he was transferred to a camp Vetlosyan and appointed a watchman in a woodworking shop, which was an art workshop.
In 1954, after serving a term Sveshnikov returned to Moscow in 1956, was rehabilitated.
In 1954-1957 he lived in Tarusa, then settled in the capital.
Worked successfully for Goslitizdat, creating a set of illustrations for the works of JW Goethe, E.T.A. Hoffman, GK Andersen, Brothers Grimm, M. Maeterlinck, K. Paustovskiy (1960) - are clearly delineated his gift romantic-symbolist, a master of historical refined styling.
In his paintings from the early, graphically-explicit paintings gradually moved on to paintings, created from puantilistskogo mirage small point smears. His heroes are usually romanticized "cons" or unknown, wandering in the realms of their nightmares and dreams.
His works are kept in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Russian Art in Jersey City and Zimmerly Museum at Rutgers University (USA), as well as in meeting society "Memorial".
