But the atmosphere in this school was beautiful, creative. It was much more interesting than in the free public schools, which taught her haughty grandeur of noble children. Mother's pupils were the future children's writer Samuil Marshak, author of "Basil Terkina" Tvardovsky and poet Michael Isakovsky.

- Do you speak French?

- Something I remember, but could not speak - my memory is bad. But Tanya was a very sharp memory, which is not just rescued her in different situations. Once she was in Italy, and walked down the street with a bag over his shoulder. A passing motorcyclist snatched her sister's bag, and there were money and documents. In a strange town, not knowing Italian, Tatiana remembered my mother's lessons, found a police station, where the French described the robber.

- Where in the family appeared fascination with drawing?

- The father regretted that I did not become an artist. Just before supposed to have a university education. But in the age of 40 he began to ride along with Smolensk artists at the sketches on the Dnieper. And we were taught the art. - Our peers. We painted portraits of schoolchildren, students in the school with "excellent". Then they called the "shock troops of study, and their portraits were gallery. We had to quickly draw, and academically, just by nature. Not so, as usually painted children, - flat, like a caricature. Since the paper was worth, it was impossible to destroy and we were soon working well.

- A pencil?

- No, coal. Pencils were very hard, so his father gathered twigs, pulling wire and threw them into the stove, where they will char. This coal we drew. On the reverse side of the wallpaper.

I was very fast in the drawings and paintings, and Tanya drew a long time, seriously, a lot of washing, to try to redo it. Suffered, night crying, even screaming.
