Diego Velazquez. Occurred from a wealthy aristocratic family. Studied in Seville by F. Herrera, Sr., and a F. Pacheco (1611-17), whose daughter Juana Miranda, married in 1618. In 1617 received a master's degree. He worked in Seville and Madrid, where he moved in 1623, appointed a court painter to the exclusive right to paint portraits of the king. He has held various positions at the court of Philip IV, up to the marshal of the court in 1652, in terms of his duties, takes a lot of time and included the organization of all the celebrations, receptions and decoration of the palace chambers, as well as replenishment of the royal art collections. Surpassing contemporary Spanish artists not only creative range, but the boldness and novelty of the artistic decisions, Velázquez painted on the genre, mythological, historical, religious subjects, portraits, landscapes. A man of high moral nobility, he was called by contemporaries "painter of truth.
