was born in the village Novobelitsa (now the Gomel region, Belarus) 8 (21) January 1903 in the family physician. Studied at the Gomel studio behalf MAVrubel (1919-1921) and the Moscow Higher Art (Higher Artistic and Technical Workshops, 1921-1930), in particular, in AD Drevin and R. Falk. Lived in Moscow.
Although by the time of Nyssa, started his path, while the independent arts groups ended, he not only joined the circle of the Society of Easel "(GRL), but stylistically it continued the line in his subsequent works (especially big influence on him has A. A. Dejneka). Already in his early landscapes reigns a sort of magical realism, granting the world a halo of poetic techniques - so, in pictures Autumn. Semaphore (1932, Tretyakov Gallery) and On the Road (1933, Museum of Fine Arts, Volgograd) attributes of the railroad brought spiritual, as in prose AP Platonov. And later, his paintings - with their broad, as free-angle and monumental rhythms, which affirms the modernity not as a set of ideological will, but as a lyrical sense - always soared above the average level of exhibition.
Among his characteristic works - Rainbow (1950, Art Museum, Dnipropetrovsk), a triptych in the north (1957, Tretyakov Gallery), Podmoskovnaya ROKADA (1957, Art Gallery, Lviv), above the snow and the collective farm "Zagorje (both - 1959-1960, Russian Museum). His later period was marred by serious illness.
