60-ies in Armenian art were the years of diligent search - old let off with difficulty, and the new with more difficulty making way. Collides head-on Socialist Realism and the new art, just barely sticking out from under the Soviet sheets. Ashot Oganesyan embarked on an artistic path, calmly and confidently. Farmer's son, he shied away from the city and a little shy. He drew a touching "genre" of rural life without guile, and very picturesque.

How he went to the geometric abstractions, nobody knows. However, the fact remains: Ashot, not looking back, and by itself, felt the need to shift around the world in its own coordinate system. The result was unprecedented in our painting paintings, where every idea was embodied in the precise geometry of simple forms, is no less compelling and no less picturesque. Years of painstaking work yielded impressive results.
Ashot has always been free, as always stubbornly did what he thought was necessary and possible. He never swam in another fairway and never got into the ideological network. Presumably, this is the phenomenon of it, because the temptation is always there was plenty. No sooner had slightly relaxed at the expense of beliefs, perhaps even at the expense of quality, but he afford such a luxury he could not because it is not just a man who knows how to put the oil on canvas, but man, this oil is extracted from the sweat and blood from the head pain and anguish of heart. Ashot Oganesyan always look the truth in art never lies, even the best intentions. In this sense, he is a realist absolutely truthful, what in the national artistic structure is not much. If any of the current situation, he always manages to remain Armenian.
Geometric paintings gave way to a powerful paintings, murals. This was not easy, but without unnecessary suffering, little by little. The plane of the canvas becomes a kind of "wall", was transformed into new matter. It worked only he and no more. By national fine tradition, he added a new quality. His red, blue and yellow sounded hard and clear over the whole of Armenian art.
Ashot makes great art, it is manly and refined, and with all its generality concrete and lives the life of its creator. In it the artist combines art and skill of the medieval creator, knows how caught up in our time and preserved on the purity of mind and soul unbribable.

Ashot Hovhannisyan

1929 - Born in s.Maisyan (Armenia).
1943-1947 - studied at art school im.S.Merkurova (Leninakan).
1948-1950 - studied at the Art School (Yerevan).
1951 - was drafted into the Soviet army for military service.
1955 - moved to Leningrad.
1957-1964 - studied at the Leningrad Academy of Arts, at Neprintseva Yu.
1965-1967 - taught art in school Leninakan N2.
1967 - taught at Leninakan State Pedagogic Institute. M. Nalbandian.
He began participating in national and international group exhibitions.
1968 - Leninakan taught at a boarding school.
From 1969 - lived in Yerevan.
The creative search for contemporary forms led to the artist's geometric abstraction.
Since 1970 - Member of the Union of Artists of Armenia.
1976 - came to the commentaries on the new free-form, began to work on large canvases "Annunciation," "Love" and "Struggle".
1977 - participated in the exhibition "The works of 50 artists of Soviet Armenia, Paris.
1978 - participated in the exhibition of contemporary Armenian artists, organized Galust Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon.
1980 - created a series of portraits: Portrait of Mother "," Portrait of Father "," Portrait of Minas "," Portrait of Arshila Hills "," Portrait of the daughter, "Self-Portrait," an Armenian. "
1982 - participated in the exhibition "Armenian paintings and drawings, Budapest.
1984 - participated in the exhibition "Art of Soviet Armenians, Berlin.
1990 - received the title of Honored Artist of Armenia.
1992 - participated in the exhibition is a private collection, London.
1995 - participated in the exhibition in Bochum, Germany.
1996 - for now "Disaster" was awarded the I prize at the exhibition-contest to mark World Congress, organized by the UN Development Program.
1997 - died in Yerevan.

Works are in the Museum of Modern Art (Yerevan), NGA, and numerous private collections in Armenia and abroad.

Life Gevorg Grigoryan can be considered a feat. Seven years of having lost his father, he was forced to earn a livelihood of the family. By only he did not have to be: a seller of newspapers, courier, glazier, gofer to the barber, grocery store, oil stock. The painfully long standing difficult days, followed by the humiliation and cuffs, paid pitiful coppers. Sad school of life left unhealed scar in the heart of the artist. But the further fate take him from art, the more he strove to him, the harder it was for him in life, the more the husband of his hand ...
Gevorg Grigoryan not write large paintings, he simply had never been such an opportunity, despite that his works are perceived as monumental paintings or large fragments of frescoes.

Means, which handles Grigoryan precise and definite: emphasize the constructive solid figure, the geometrization of forms, compositional clarity, restraint of color - all together tells his works inner strength, expressiveness, energy. Conciseness reinforces generality, condenses the thought and form, focusing on the basic idea of the paintings.

I had good teachers, but one way or another, about painting, I know little. You can say I know nothing. (Giotto)

1897 - born in Tiflis.
In the seven years he was forced to work: "boy" of a black oil stock, a barbershop, a messenger, newsboy, a fruit seller at the shop, bookstall, glazier, etc.
1916-1920 - became the school of painting and sculpture in the Caucasian society to promote Fine Arts (Tbilisi), where he studied with A. Bazhbeuk-Melikyan, E. Kochar, L. Gudiashvili.
1918 - participated in the balance sheet show the students the school.
1921 - with a group of young actors under the direction of Suren Khachatrian (brother of Aram Khachaturian), went to Moscow to study.
Joined the second year in VHUTEMAS-a. Became a member of the section of artists "Ayartuna.
1922 - began to teach drawing in labor schools.
1924 - entered the Russian workers' school in GPI them. Lenin.
1927 - participated in the exhibition in Tbilisi artists, the exhibition of art of the USSR, on the tenth anniversary of the October Revolution (Moscow).
1929-1948 - participated in almost all the exhibitions organized in Yerevan and Tbilisi.
1948 - began years of oblivion. In a fit of desperation and despair, the artist had been burned 300 paintings.
1948-1957 - was expelled from the Union of Artists of Georgia.
From 1958 - resumed its participation in exhibitions.
1962 - thanks to the efforts of certain circles of the Armenian intelligentsia moved to Yerevan. It began to appear on articles in newspapers and magazines in Armenian and Georgian.
1965 - first solo exhibition in SH Armenia, Yerevan.
1972 - participated in the exhibition of artists Caucasus, Moscow.
1976 - died in Yerevan the day before his 79 birthday.
1980 - 25 November in Yerevan was a museum-workshop of Giotto.

Posthumous exhibitions:
1980 - Museum-workshop of Giotto, Yerevan.
1983 - Tbilisi, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, together with the works of his wife - artist Diana Ukleba.
1985 - in Kutaisi, Moscow and other cities of the former USSR and abroad.

His works are in museum-workshop of Giotto, the Museum of Modern Art (Yerevan), NGA, in numerous private collections in Armenia and around the world.
