Bahchanyan was born in 1938 in Kharkov, in the mid 60's he moved to Moscow, where he participated in the informal exhibitions and worked in the comic section of the Literary Gazette "Club 12 chairs."

In 1974 Bahchanyan emigrated to the United States and settled in New York, where he published five books.
Two of them were republished in Russia: "a lot of the Flies: making art" and "Cherry Hell and other plays."
