Descendant party battle of Trafalgar sold at auction injured in the battle flag of the United Kingdom for 384 thousand pounds (634 thousand dollars), reports Reuters. Sold flag is the last surviving since the time the Union Jack.
Approximate cost of historical relics has been installed at around 15 thousand pounds (25 thousand dollars). "Union Jack" in several places damaged by bullets and shell fragments and a little smell of gunpowder, the agency said.
During the Battle of Trafalgar, which took place on Oct. 12, 1805 off the coast of Spain, the flag was on the English double-deck ship "Spartans." After the battle flag became the owner of the Scottish Royal Navy Lieutenant James Klefan (James Clephan).
The new owner of the flag size 3,5 by 2,1 meters has become a collector from the United States, whose identity was not disclosed. He noted that paying such a high price for the Union Jack was forced not only the history of the flag, but the identity of his former owner.
James Klefan was recruited into the Navy in 1794 at the age of 26 years and left the service only in 1840, rising to the rank of captain. Klefan is one of 16 sailors in the history of the British fleet, which had achieved such a rank after the forced recruitment into the service.
The collector does not exclude that the flag will remain in the UK - according to him, talks about this he leads the British Government.
