collection I have collected paintings, drawings and watercolors in different years of life consisted of two to four and a half thousand works, my library of books on art now includes more than four thousand volumes. I possessed such masterpieces of world art, both paintings and Zorn Diaz, Goya, and Raffaello, dreams, and Corot, and the Russian part of my collection features artwork Rokotov, Briullov Aivazovsky, Shishkin and other famous artists of Russia. These paintings are a different fell to me, but some of them I had just saved from death in postwar Leningrad, saved from export abroad, qualitatively restored, and in some cases even establish the authorship of the greatest artists. Not a single museum of the former Soviet Union has enriched his collection of paintings acquired through my work. My works have been exhibited many times in different cities of the country, many of my acquisitions reproduced in the famous exhibition catalogs.

A special place in my collection has always been Russian avant-garde. Probably, I and G. Kostaki were among the first collectors of domestic work are little known at that time we Malevich, Kandinsky, Cluny and etc. Some unique works of these artists were given to me in museums, many confiscated, and the rest, that is their main part, to still remain with me.

The story of my life, almost half a century associated with the collecting of Russian and Western painting, would be incomplete without mention of the Navy. Engineer-submariner by training, I have many years of dedicated service on submarines. Fought. He defended his thesis and taught in many higher naval schools of the country. As captain of the second rank, for health reasons I retired, and only then was able to devote himself entirely to the main cause of my life - the collection of paintings.

Life naval officers and customs of the capital's art collectors in the years of Stalinism and the post-war devastation in the 50's and 60's, in Moscow and Leningrad - all I knew from the inside (in this sense that I had written could be considered "eyewitness testimony"). As, unfortunately, and the darkest pages of my biography: arrest, persecution of the KGB, the confiscation and looting of my paintings, ad me speculator, ten years in the camps ...

After his release, I emigrated to the United States, but after living there for twenty years, interesting, new and, of course, related to the pictures of life, moved to Europe.

Part of the confiscated from my collection of pictures - a few dozen! - Are in the Tretyakov Gallery and the Pushkin Museum. Any visitor can easily locate them. Describe all findings and discoveries, which I managed to do, of course, impossible - this would have required tons of paper and years of life. And I have 80 years, the forces left a little. The book is a purely autobiographical in nature and is not intended to become a professional artistic studies, I wrote almost all his life.
