Record sculpture improve the demographics

Since then, when art serves specific purposes, was the abyss of time. From rock to hold back the spirits of hunting, it gradually moved to the area, far from practical application. Residents of north-east of England have decided to resurrect the old proven methodologies and conceived to improve the demographic with a few giant installations.
More precisely, it was not a public outburst, a project of "Revival of the valley Tisa" (Tees Valley Regeneration - TVR), who claims to have become the world's largest public-art. Roughly speaking, the greatest monument.
And this is just one of the initiatives proposed by the TVR. Rather, it is not even a company as "Fund of territorial development". The private: the British do not like to breed unnecessary bureaucracy.

The Fund is attracting funding for any specific projects spatial structure, mainly related to buildings, preparation of industrial sites and other real estate. But not only.
It all began with the fact that one of the regions of England, centered in Middlesbrough (Middlesbrough) collided with a gloomy demographic and economic trends: the number of residents over the past 20 years has decreased by almost 10%(mainly due to the young), and the unemployment rate was one of the the highest in the country.
This, of course, not the typical seaside town, a sort of British Chemodansk, who in 1990 wanted to expose the carpet bombing of a famous singer Morrissey. All the same, and the football team there is good there, and the port - the second largest in England.
But the situation was unpleasant, and the people to become thoughtful: the other all this time, dynamic growth, and we? No one was shouting about what you need to burn this arrogant London or there Surrey.
Modern nortumbriytsy quite wisely decided to turn inward and thinking about the ways in which to keep graduates and vocational school in their native land. And maybe others lure at the same time.
How is it done? Very simple: to create intrigue. Young always needed hope - something big, clean and not very friendly in front. This, of course, not about the Giants indýstrii that are guaranteed to smoke the sky the next few years 80, - a question of culture.
Investing in human development - quite favorably. In this field, and decided to play a TVR.
Thus was the project "The Giants Valley Airport" (Tees Valley Giants) - a series of five installations internationally recognized sculptor Anish Kapoor (Anish Kapoor) and Cecil Balmonda (Cecil Balmond), a designer-structuralists, has a weakness to the whole monumental.
On this project they have worked together for several years. According to the plan TVR, installation not only create a stylish atmosphere, but also provide the city further development "modernistic" Image: Middlesbrough already have an Institute of Contemporary Art (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art).
The first in a series of "Giants" - "temenos" (Temenos). "Sacred place" in Greek. His installation at Middlesbrough, in the docks. And from the very first record of the magnitude will be taken: 110 meters long and nearly 50 in height. Nothing like this had never happened.
Not quite true, of course, that means this design. According to the Indian sculptor, one ring will simply "float in the air, but the second he said nothing.
Will produce "temenos" of stainless steel - the entire structure will weigh about 66 tons and placed parallel to the brutal transportation bridge across the River Tees (Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge).
Construction of all five sculptural compositions will end after 10 years. The total project cost is estimated at 15 million pounds - not much, compared to a half billion, but the effect is!
According to the authors, these works razmoyut boundary between public-art and architecture. "The Emigrants" feel the breath of the beautiful and back. Or new and more purposeful arrive on the development of the coastal virgin.
That's so sad place with a hint of the decline of civilization may turn into something for the "contemplation and reflection on the future." At least, the hopes for this government and the people that these installations are sending the world a signal "about the intellectual ambitions of the region."
Perhaps they are right. The main thing - do not sleep through the flash.
Illustrations:
1. Total running TVR is a half billion pounds - is the biggest company on the "socio-cultural revival of the territories" in the UK. And she comes to work creatively: where airports are developed, where the educational infrastructure, and where only a new lovely home builds (illustration from teesvalleyregeneration.co.uk).
2. Around Middlesbrough have something to revive: the valley of the River Tees is spread over an area of 80 thousand hectares, which is home to about 650 thousand people. Reconstruction of educational infrastructure (colleges, for example) - in the first place (illustration from sites teesvalleyregeneration.co.uk, geograph.org.uk).
3. Reconstruction project village Middlehaven (illustrations from sites teesvalleyregeneration.co.uk, e-architect.co.uk).
4. The declared value "temenos" - 2,7 million British pounds. But for the hometown no pity: the list of sponsors appear both government and private foundations, and even the FC Middlesbrough (illustrations from sites teesvalleyregeneration.co.uk, telegraphindia.com, guardian.co.uk, wikipedia.org).
5. The remaining four sites will be installed at Stockton, Hartlepool, Darlington and Redcar (all - near Middlesbrough). But so far only one of them is ready to project - a bridge over the Tees at Stockton (illustration from teesvalleyregeneration.co.uk).
6. Generally speaking, public-art can be anything. This is very similar to a return to the oldest syncretism, when the "installation" was a song-dance and war paint at a time. But in this case it is about something more modern and less conservative (an illustration from teesvalleyregeneration.co.uk).
