Artist-run space - a common practice overseas organization of galleries and exhibition halls by the artists - has a rich history in our country. Gallery in Tryokhprudny, "Baumanskaya-13", "France" - all these were pure artist-run spaces. One of the last places in Moscow, where the practice has successfully existed, became a cultural center "Art-Arrow. How did the idea of the project "Supermarket"? What is it and who its authors?
- In February of this year, I traveled to Sweden to participate in the fair, which is called Supermarket. It must be said that Sweden has a great Contemporary Art Fair Market. And a few years ago, it was decided to make a completely different and totally fair alternative, which was named Supermarket. In Market involved the major players - known galleries, dealers, museums, public institutions, and the Supermarket - a meeting place for small galleries. Most of her before artist-run spaces. That's Supermarket and became an example for me and starting point for work on a "supermarket".
I began to invite the expert advice - to create a concept and a sample list of participants - except for me, it included Stas Shuripa, Lisa Plavinskaya and Anton Litvin. Gradually, this became an expert advice to the organizing committee fair "Supermarket".
- Why you felt the need for such a fair and why it is in Moscow?
- Based on my personal experience, of course. We participated in "Art-Moscow" for three consecutive years, and - above all emotionally - I felt very comfortable there: my relationship with the audience, with neighbors I was always not satisfied. And when I went to the Supermarket, I realized what should be fair of contemporary art that I enjoy and practical benefits from participation in it. We're all going to those companies where we are pleased to visit, right?
