I would be closer look at the fellows.
"Little people" - the master of himself and his entire family. Group portrait in landscape.

Many, many years ago had a chance to look at these two pictures, as they say, alive. "Workers", is more accurately translated "laborers," ie, unskilled workers (labourers), then made a tremendous impression. This is - of course, a masterpiece, one of the best works produced by D. Burliuk for his life. Place this picture, no doubt, one of the major museums in the world next to the other geniuses of expressionism.

The young gallery owner told me that the previous owner of the picture, refined aesthetic person, the holder of the best in Europe, collection of Russian avant-garde, supplying the major museums of the continent works of Jewish writers of the movement, specially went to Burlyuk to buy him something from this period. The artist could not offer, and gallery owner, resolutely refused to buy war crafts. Both were disappointed. Suddenly Burlyuk remembered that in the garage lies a canvas early 20-ies. Brought in, unfurled. According to the curator, it was a six meter panels, except for a small fragment, c completely destroyed colorful layer. However, this fragment of his fascinated. They slaughtered the surviving part of the picture, it was immediately purchased, and an additional bonus, the artist, the marshal, on the joys and later acquired a family portrait.

I asked the price. If memory does not change the "laborers" were worth while about 250,000 pounds, and "Family Portrait" about 60000. It seemed to me that this is much higher than market prices, especially as it was shortly after the world's rush for art, in other words, the crisis. No rush to Russian art market did not exist. Those who would later be called the new Russian, have just started the post-Soviet space to the award of national wealth. Was the primary stage of accumulation of capital. Feverishly bought up houses, cars, concubines. On art, no one thought.

By purchasing from Alistair much less significant now another author from the former collection of his kin-aesthetic (not to mention help myself, that this purchase, having made a long and difficult road, was resold in 2008 in London, 100 (!) Times more expensive), I, as he put it, became his friend (old fellow). Subsequently we have not met many times to mutual satisfaction.

After a while I called Alistair and said that he was ready to negotiate on the price of "Hardworking". To my surprise the picture was already sold. A year or two young gallery owner, and got rid of the "family portrait".

Whoever the current owner of "Hardworking", as the French say, take off my hat, because he has an outstanding work of art.

Over masterpieces could and should be paying more. Only in this way and going to a collection of first-class works of brilliant names. Is not it nice qwerty?
