One of the little known (until recently) artists' Jack of Diamonds.

Sergei Lobanov (1887-1942).

Sergei Lobanov - one of the little-known public artists of the first half of the twentieth century. His "fovistskie" landscapes exhibited at the Jack of Diamonds "(in 1910 and 1912), unfortunately, continue to work Lobanova barely exposed (except for a few exhibitions in the 20-ies).

Lobanov studied in the studios FI Rerberg (1906) and II Mashkov (1907), at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1907-1913), but in the years of training at the school he became an expert on the history of art (seeing in 1908 on a tour of European museums of its teachers Mashkova had never been in Europe Lobanov detail explained to him what cities to visit and that in a museum to watch). In 1914, Lobanov engaged in courses in art history at the Moscow Archaeological Institute, and in 1918 was admitted to the Department for Museums and Monuments Protection in the People's Commissariat. In 1922 he was appointed curator of the nationalized meetings SI Shchukin. Within one and a half decades, Sergei Lobanov was deputy director of the State Museum of New Western Art (later a large part of the collection was transferred to GMNZI GMII im. Pushkin, becoming the basis for collection of French painting of the second half of the XIX and XX centuries).

After a brief stay in the ranks of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (in 1924 excluded "as an alien ideology AHRR and general camaraderie of life") Lobanov was in art associations, and participated in the exhibition only when he was invited. The artist is constantly pursued the lack of materials. "As you should be happy - Lobanov wrote to the Paris-based director GMNZI BN Ternovtsu - see in shop windows paint, pencils, canvases, albums ... which I can only dream about!" If you want to please me, buy a tin box of watercolors Windsor - New York on 18-24 cups. "
