José Benlliure y Gil
Jose Benliure y Gil (1858 - 1937), Spanish painter, born in Valencia, he studied painting with Domingo, and showed marked talent. Was sent to a Spanish school in Rome.
He was one of the artists, which the Spanish government provided a pension travel and accommodation in Italy. There he carried out some state jobs for decoration of public buildings. But his fame he was due to the large historical paintings. He became the leader of the Spanish art colony in Rome, where he worked as a painter and sculptor.
