I suppose that the copies were made to attract tourists. In the Clos-Luce, where da Vinci spent the last years, with the same purpose made furniture and interiors, in which he lived, and mechanisms for his drawings. Well, even the dishes do not have to produce, too, in his drawings. But would enjoy demand.

Perhaps he was more explorer than a painter, and master of all trades, even entertainment spectacle for the King arranged. And here we are arguing whether the artist is professional earns no painting.
