Jewels of the Romanov dynasty to be auctioned off
Romanov family heirlooms will be put up for auction Sotheby's, said in a press release, the auction house. Lots with a total value estimated at one million pounds sterling (about 1,6 million dollars), to be auctioned off in November 2009.
As stated in a press release on the Sotheby's sale will feature a collection of decorative and applied arts, including products and Faberge. Jewelry belonged to Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna Romanova and her husband Vladimir Alexandrovich Romanov, the son of Emperor Alexander II.
It is noteworthy that more than 90 years, the collection was considered lost: it was removed from revolutionary Russia in November 1918 in Sweden. Soon after the country broke off diplomatic relations, and jewels of the Romanov family had not been so returned to their homeland, but were later lost.
