Chinese landscape set a record at auction
Landscape XVII century Chinese artist Chu (1626-1705) sold at auction Beijing Beijing Council International Auction for 84 million yuan, that is for 12,3 million U.S. dollars, reported Xinhua. The previous record price for Chinese painting was set in 2007, when over 10.7 million dollars was sold to Red Scroll Rock "XVI century artist Qiu Ying.
Name Chu included in the list of ten most important figures in Chinese art version of UNESCO.
Chu was a calligrapher, painter and poet. After the fall of the Ming Dynasty under the onslaught of the Manchus in 1644 he retired to a monastery, but later left and became an itinerant artist. He is considered one of the greatest masters of his era.
