After the dissolution of the Cobra Alechinsky moved to Paris, where he struck up a friendship with the Surrealists, as well as Alberto Giacometti, Bram van der Velde and Victor Brauner. In his work exerted a great influence Chinese painter Ting Wallace, with whom he met in 1954
In the same year in the Paris gallery of Nina Jean Dausset was organized the first solo exhibition Alechinsky, and in 1955 a large exhibition of artworks held in the Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels. In 1958 his works were shown at London's Institute of Contemporary Art, in 1960 - in the Belgian pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
