The lower branch of a fir tree at the bottom scored Zoshchenko Misha, a nine-year boy, the future writer. This, he recalls in his autobiographical novel "Before Sunrise".
2-3. State Memorial Museum Alexander Suvorov - a museum dedicated to the memory of Generalissimo Alexander Suvorov (1729-1800). Founded in 1900, the centenary of the death of the commander. Inaugurated four years later, 13 (26) November 1904 to the 175 th anniversary of the birth of Suvorov, with the participation of Emperor Nicholas II.
Suvorov was the first man in Russia, in whose honor had been specially erected a memorial museum.
In 1904, the museum became a modern building, built on the site allocated to the Life Guards Regiment - part of a parade ground at the corner of Kirochnaia and Tauride streets. The building was built specifically for the museum project AI von Gauguin involving GD Grimm in the style of old Russian fortifications - watchtower and departing from her walls with loopholes. On both sides of the emblem of Suvorov, on the facade there are two mosaics on the theme "Check Suvorov's campaign in 1799" and "Suvorov crossing the Alps.
Museum collections, including 100,000 subjects (in 2002), were acquired through purchase and private donations. After the revolution in 1918 the museum was closed and the meeting were distributed to other museums. In 1930 the building housed Aeromuzey. During the siege of Leningrad, the building was damaged by a bomb. In 1950, work began on the restoration of the museum. The newly opened museum in 1951.
From 1988 to 1998, the museum was closed for restoration and re-opened to the public May 8, 1998.
