The Hermitage opened an exhibition of two paintings by Renoir
Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg on May 26 opened an exhibition of two pairs of paintings by Auguste Renoir, reported on the museum site. This exhibition is the first in a series of "The Rejuvenated masterpieces" on the work of restorers.
The Hermitage has exhibited the work of "Man on the stairs" and "Woman on the stairs." Artworks for a long time were in the hallway of the mansion Parisians Georges and Marguerite Charpentier, by order of which were written. Dust and dirt stained cloth. In addition, from time to time "duff" and covered with new layers of varnish, which also changed the colors.
Subsequently, the work is in the European private collections, in particular, in the collection of Otto Gerstenberg. Together with the party captured the works of art they got to the Hermitage. In mid-1990's "Man on the stairs" and "Woman on the stairs" were exhibited in the project "Unknown masterpieces.
In recent years the paintings were restored by specialists of the Hermitage. It clarifies the ITAR-TASS, the revival of the work involved in one of their most skilled restorers, museum Valery Brovkin. The exhibition runs until September 6.
