Money won art.
Probably not won, but rather did not let escape. It is hard to find a period in history when the art would not be subject to money.
An attempt to escape was made, in my opinion, just "classical avant-garde." This attempt was to entirely new forms and the extreme opposition of art to society of consumption, and has been successfully suppressed by force, perhaps, a slightly different scale than art. That positioned as an extreme underground, became available only to the richest.
Of course, art has a certain freedom (here you can theorize endlessly), which still remains rather arbitrary.
